Benedict car air freshener recommendation 'Atmore Instance': A review of the electronic diffuser controlled via app

When you spend a lot of time in a car, the interior air quickly becomes familiar. Once the new car smell fades, a mix of coffee aromas, outside air, and residual scents after washing blend together, so even a small air freshener can influence the car’s atmosphere. From my previous experience with the Benedict Atmore, I felt it was more like a small object you place in the cup holder rather than just a typical air freshener. The new Atmore Instance continues this impression while adding the ability to control fragrance release and lighting through an app.

Most standard car air fresheners start off strong but lose their scent quickly over time. The Atmore Instance uses a rhythm of short bursts followed by pauses, creating a more consistent lingering fragrance inside the car.

What's new compared to the previous Atmore

In my earlier Atmore review, I focused on the packaging, device design, the process of filling refills into capsules, and how well it fit in the new Trax cup holder. The metal finish and gift-worthy box left a strong impression. This latest product is still part of the Benedict car air freshener line but has a stronger smart diffuser feel. You can adjust spray and pause times and customize LED colors and patterns via the dedicated app, shifting it from a simple scent selector to a device that lets you actively shape the fragrance experience. Particularly with the Essential Package, scanning a QR code registers scents, each with a tailored spray rhythm and lighting that makes set-up easy even for first-time users—scents like Harbor, Mystic, Dude, and Orange Moon come with fitting patterns and colors.

Packaging and first impressions

Though a car accessory, Benedict pays close attention to giving its packaging a gift-like feel. When you open the box, the device and components are neatly arranged, and the diffuser itself looks like a small tumbler or premium Bluetooth speaker. The body is made from 6061 aluminum, giving it a weighty feel unlike typical plastic products. According to product info, it weighs about 0.37 kg, with dimensions of 75mm diameter and 143.2mm height, so it has a noticeable presence even when placed in a cup holder.

However, since not all cars have cup holders of the same size, if your cup holder is narrow, it's better to check the fit before installation.

Controlling scent release via the app

This product’s biggest appeal is the fragrance control through the app. Level 1 delivers a subtle, long-lasting scent, while level 3 produces a stronger presence over a shorter time. If you're sensitive to fragrances, it's best to start at level 1. The dedicated oil comes in a 15ml bottle, larger than the previous 10ml. Lower levels consume oil slowly; higher levels give a faster scent but also burn oil more quickly. Your experience will vary depending on whether you prefer to switch scents often or use one for a longer time.

It offers Home Mode and Car Mode, letting you adjust usage based on location.

While the earlier Atmore involved transferring refill liquids into capsules, this model allows direct installation of the dedicated oils, and if you use custom oils, you can employ separate containers—making maintenance more straightforward.

Ambient lighting and the car atmosphere

You might wonder if a light is necessary for a car air freshener. However, a soft glow from the cup holder area during night driving can noticeably change the cabin ambiance. You can choose from various colors based on RGB, and select patterns like solid or pulse. Each scent has recommended colors—Harbor pairs with mint tones, Mystic with nude pinks—adding a visual dimension to the fragrance mood. Keeping the brightness subtle reduces distraction while driving.

The built-in 2,000mAh battery charges via USB-C. Turning off the LED extends usage time, while having the lights on increases battery drain. For long drives or when parked for extended periods, it’s more convenient to dim or turn off the lighting.
