As summer approaches, I find myself reaching for a small fan to keep on my desk again. There are times when it's awkward to keep the air conditioner on all the time, and just a slight breeze toward your face while sitting in front of a laptop for a long time can make a big difference. However, small fans often have narrow airflow or annoying noise, so they tend to be used only for a few days before ending up in a drawer.
The product I’m reviewing this time is the Cargo Container Object FAN-WIDE, which is great for commuting and travel. Known mainly for camping gear, Cargo Container has expanded into everyday small appliances and living products, and this is one of their offerings.

At first, I assumed this product would have a strong camping vibe. But after seeing it in person, it’s a bit different. Instead of being rough and rugged like outdoor gear, it’s closer to a foldable desk fan designed with use at an office desk, beside the bed, and as a handheld fan while on the move in mind.

Opening the box, here’s the first look at the design: as the name suggests, FAN-WIDE has a head that appears wider than a typical handheld fan. The handle is elongated, with buttons and a small display screen at the bottom. It comes in Cool White and Modern Gray, and the unit in the photos has a subtle gray tone that blends well on a desk. Although released by a camping brand, this product doesn’t look out of place in daily living spaces.

The weight is listed as 352g. It isn’t extremely light when held, but considering the size of the head, it’s reasonable. When holding the handle, the center of gravity doesn’t shift too far upward, making short-term handheld use comfortable. However, it’s not as pocket-friendly as tiny mini fans, so it’s more suitable to carry in a bag or pouch.
What I liked most is the foldable design: when set upright, it works as a desk fan, and folding the handle allows you to angle the breeze lower. Using it upright on a desk or bedside table feels natural, while folding it down is more stable on low or camping tables.

I also appreciated the charging port and stand that lets you set it upright. Small fans usually take up desk space awkwardly when charging flat, but this one can be neatly stored on its stand.
With a USB-C cable, it can be used while charging, so when you are near a power source, like an office desk, you don’t have to worry about battery life.

Five Adjustable Wind Speeds
FAN-WIDE offers five adjustable wind speeds. Press the button once to turn it on, then each press cycles through the speeds. To turn it off, hold the button for 1-2 seconds. The controls are simple and don’t require reading the manual extensively.
The display screen showing the current speed adds convenience, especially for a small device.

In offices or reading spaces, levels 1-2 are often enough. At these settings, the breeze doesn’t feel too weak but rather helps reduce stuffiness around your face.
Levels 4-5 provide noticeably stronger airflow but also raise noise levels. So, it’s best to use lower levels in quiet indoor settings and higher levels outdoors or while on the move.

Battery and Usage Time
The built-in battery is a 5000mAh lithium-ion unit. Usage time is up to 42 hours at the lowest setting, and around 3 hours at the highest.
Those numbers sound long, but in practice, the stage you use really matters. This fan is better suited for mostly low setting use with occasional boosts to high power, rather than being run at max speed all day.

Charging takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. The USB-C port makes it convenient to keep near laptop chargers or power banks.
Personally, I avoid gadgets that require dedicated cables, so having USB-C reduces that hassle. Charge it before going out, and keep it on its stand at the office for simple management.

The Cargo Container Object FAN-WIDE sits between a compact portable fan and a desk fan. Its wide head and foldable design give more satisfaction when used on a desk, while the handle makes it easy to carry around as a handheld fan.
Rather than being designed for one specific use, it naturally fits between an office desk fan and a handheld fan.

It’s especially suited for those who work long hours on laptops, dislike direct air conditioner airflow, or want a small breeze next to the bed or kitchen.
It can also work on a camping table, but it’s closer to daily living gear than rugged outdoor equipment. The design is muted and clean, fitting well in home spaces.

Considerations Before Buying
There are some points to consider before buying. Because of the wide head, it doesn’t fold down as small as ultra-compact mini fans. If you carry only a small bag daily, size should be checked first.
Also, if you plan to use the highest wind speed for long outdoor periods, the battery will deplete faster, so carrying a power bank is advisable.
